AIISF coordinated a video program in 2017 for local youth who interviewed immigrant and American-born seniors from the local community. The Henry Mayo Newhall Foundation provided generous funding for this program and the “3 People” program which premiered its videos in 2015. Our wonderful producer Anson Ho and co-producer Casey Chow worked with all the students from Cameron House, the Japanese Community Youth Center, and J-Sei in 2017 and with Cameron House in 2015. One of the people interviewed in 2015, Ming Quan Chang, became a video student in 2017!
Phillip Van left Vietnam in 1973 for Hong Kong and later came to the U.S. as a refugee. He settled in San Francisco and now works to serve the community on the staff of a community legal organization.

Of Russian background, Ludmilla Litvinoff came to the U.S. in 1958 from Harbin China to join her parents. She settled in San Francisco and married a fellow immigrant she had known in Harbin.

3 People project undertaken in partnership with AIISF, Donaldina Cameron House and the Center for Asian American Media, project producer Anson Ho taught the Cameron House kids video production and interviewing skills.
The interviews were often emotional as the seniors told their stories to the young people who captured the moments on tape. To paraphrase one of the students, “This started out as fun, but I quickly learned how important capturing these stories is.”
